In partnership with the Office of Senator Robihood “Abdulaziz” Padilla, DepEd External Partnership, DepEd Bureau of Learning Delivery-Student Inclusion and the Schools Division of Pasay City, the first National Commemoration of Sheik Karim’ul Makhdum Day commenced on November 07, 2025 at Cuneta Elementary School, Schools Division Office, Pasay City.
DepEd Secretary Angara authored and initiated Republic Act Republic Act 10573, known as an Act Declaring Sheik Karim’ul Makhdum Mosques, Considered as one of the Oldest Mosques in the Philippines located at Tubig Indangan, Simunul Tawi-Tawi as the National Landmark ; and Republic Act 12228, known as Declaring November 07 as a National Working Holiday commemorating Sheik Karim’ul Makhdum as the first Philippine Mosque and Introduction of Islam in the Philippines.
The milestone was graced and witnessed by Ambassadors from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Qatar together with Atty. Fatima Libb Panontongan, Undesecretary and Chief of Staff, Office of the Secretary, Department of Education, Cilette Liboro Co, DepEd Assistant Secretary, Janir Datucan, DepEd Assistant Secretary, Roger B. Masapol, DepEd Assistant Secretary, Graciela Mendoza, Director IV, DepEd External Partnership, Alvin R. Alcid, Director, National Historical Commission, Atty. Amorsolo R. Camara Jr, Director IV, DepEd International Cooperation Office, Samera Gutoc, Director, Muslim Affairs form the Office of Senator Robinhood Padilla, Ms. Kristela Castronuevo, Chief Legislative Officer, Office of Sen. Robin Padilla, Ms. Angelica Roa Yu, Executive Assistant for Social Services, Pasay City – Representative from the Office of the City Mayor, Dr. Quinn Norman O. Arreza, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Eleanor Capilitan, Public Schools District Supervisor – Cluster 7, School Heads, Assistant School Principals, Brgy Chairman of Brgy 77 Hon. Noel Javelosa, Brgy Chairman of Brgy 79 Hon. Delfin Desalungan, Barangay Councilors of Bragy 77,78, and 79, and the Teaching and Non-teaching force of Cuneta Elementary School Headed by Mrs. Loreta G. Petalcorin.
A day before the event, Senator Robin Padilla personally visited the school together with the Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Pasay Dr. Joel T. Torrwcampo, CESO VI to monitor and express their strong support on the conduct of the historical activity.
The Office of Senator Robin Padilla distributed 1160 pcs of gift packs distributed to all the learners and the teaching and non-teaching personel of Cuneta Elementary School, and provided as well a catering services for learners, performers, and teachers. A token of appreciation was on the other hand provided by SDO Pasay together with the sumptuous meals for the VIPs.
